Athens

Athens is the capital of Greece, and is located on the Attic Peninsula which juts into the Aegean sea. We go to Athens every Sunday for church, and usually spend most of the day there in the city. The Acropolis stands above the city, and various magnificent ruins fill the area with ancient history. Several modern buildings are built in the ancient achitectural styles, but most of the city is typically European. Lykabettos hill, crowned by the church of St. George, towers in the middle of the city and offers a wide view in all directions. The National Archeological Museum in Athens contains many fascinating artifacts and sculptures.
