I finally got my KOME tapes ripped into mp3 format. I posted them at Rapidshare.com. These are from old Realistic 60 minute cassettes, recorded on a Realistic tape deck if I remember right, and it didn't have Dolby. I lived in South San Francisco during the later half of 1978 thru January 1979, before traveling on. I believe I had either a Technics or Pioneer receiver with an indoor rabbit ears for an antenna. I rented the second floor of a house. KOME would give me about a 3.5 or 4 out of 5 on my signal strength meter if I recall correctly, and KFAT in Gilroy would give me maybe a 2 or so? So I posted the links to my airchecks below. They were recorded 44,100 K wav files first, then into 192 K mp3 files, except for the KOME Christmas jingle from 1978 which is at 320.

The tapes are old and have been re-recorded at some point to avoid age related sound deterioration. The KOME tapes are all about a half hour long, as I used C-60's and ripped them in that fashion. The DJ's and commercials are all intact. The KFAT tape was ripped combining both sides, so it's one long 60 minute block, and there's some artifacts especially toward the end due to splices, and re-dubbing.

I have 10 half hour KOME segments from the winter of 1978-79, 6 featuring Dennis Erectus, 2 sides featuring Joe Kelly, and 2 sides that are probably Karin Nakamura, but not 100% sure on that one.

The KOME Christmas jingle is "stand-alone", as most tapes I made back then were just to get a taped song collection off the radio, so I usually taped when I heard a song I liked. These tapes, not included here, are missing DJ's and commercials for the most part, and often intros of songs, etc., as I would start recording when the song came on, so these are personal tapes. However, I did get a chance to score the Christmas jingle in one of these tapes. it's great! Unfortunately, by the time I pressed the record button at the time, I probably sliced off the first few notes of the jingle. I tried getting a clean split as possible out of the master tape and resulting wav that I made. I like the comment after the jingle, not sure if that was the voice of the great Dennis Erectus?

When I originally made these tapes, I just threw a tape in when I felt like it to record an hour, so they will start and end in the middle of a song or commercial. The one I made on 1/20/79 with Dennis Erectus has 4 sides, as when I got done with both sides of the first tape, I threw in a second to record. I made these as I was planning on moving out of the area, and wanted KOME radio in my cassette collection.

The lone KFAT file here, is both sides combined as explained above, but I believe I recorded this more like late summer or early fall before I planned on relocating again. I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and am now again back "home". The reason I recorded this will be obvious, as I happened to tune them in when they were playing a very X rated block and I happened to get some of it, so be warned, about the first maybe 13 minutes of the KFAT tape is not for kids. Or sensitive ears. The DJ, Sister Tonya(?), doesn't talk until about 42 minutes in, and she explains the tunes. There's a "Marie Osmond listens to KFAT" announcement about 16 minutes in, after "Pencilneck Geek", but it's actually a male voice.

Clips and some info on KOME and KFAT can be found HERE,

This is the one hour of KFAT in Gilroy, CA that I have, with DJ Sister Tonya. Watch out, the first 10 to 15 minutes are very X rated.
