Maslina - Dalmatian Autonomist Party

This page is a former site of Falanx Di Vegliot,.. a Dalmatian Regionalist Offshoot Movement (banned by the Croatian Government) which was founded in 2002 and disbanded in 2004.

During its short period of existence, FDV achieved fame on International Level by both organising and taking part in Human Rights demonstrations in numerous countries worldwide (including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, Italy etc.) against the Republic of Croatia and its policies.

FDV was so successful in getting their point across to the international community (on Human Rights abuses that the Croatian Government were committing), that the Croatian Special Police, under the title "Threat to National Security", issued arrest warrants to all FDV members.

In 2004, in exchange for a total disbandment of FDV, its members were given full pardons by the state, including amnesty (immunity from courts), and (as a minority) the right to bypass the mandatory army service.

It should be noted that by 2006 some of its ExMembers took advantage of their "special status" in the eyes of the law, and had re-established links with the grey economy. As such, in the new Capitalist Croatia, with property prices going sky high & the return of Tourism, wealth and glory quickly followed.

FAQ about Dalmatian Culture

What does Vegliot mean? What does D.A. mean? Is the Dal. Language Extinct?
Vegliot is a term used to describe either the ancient Dalmatian language or a Regional Dalmatian.

D.A. stands for Dalmatinska Akcija (Dal. Action Party) from Split. This was the main political wing of the Regional Dalmatians. Its key role was to represent a voice for the minority.

Unfortunately, its humanist attitude towards all citizens of the republic of Croatia, made it a torn for the "Radical government" (that was in power at the time in Croatia), which made it an unlikely target for extremists. Being a party of a minority in Croatia's "Pluto Democracy", made it vulnerable to the lack of ethnic minority rights, that existed (at that point in time). As a result, it grew very unpopular as the government blackened its profile. Finally in 2002 it seized to exist.

In its oral sense it is more or less extinct. However, the language it self, is written down. Furthermore, there has been a study conducted in regards to a new Dalm. Dictionary. Unfortunately due to the lack of interest, this study is still waiting for a publisher to publish it.

What happened to Regional Dalmatians after D.A. closed? Who are Italian Dalmatians?
After 2000, Regional Dalms. fell through the net of the Cro. Governments initiative to protect its ethnic minorities. The Dal Regs., suffered a catastrophe, that led to widespread fall in membership. The statistical data showed that more then half of Dal Regs felt so alienated and threatened by the Croatian government that most of them disclosed them selves as Croats on the 2000 census forms.

Today there are no more then a few hundred publicly stated Dal Regs. in Croatia, with an overall figure of about 1500 worldwide.

Italians Dalmatians are those people whose heritage also comes from Dalmatia, but, unlike the vast majority, consider them selves to be Italian. Ofcource, majority of Italian Dalmatian today live in Italy, Australia and the US. This is because, after WW2, most of them were forced to leave their homeland by the Yugoslav Partisans.

On the lighter note, most of them consider them selves, first and foremost Dalmatian, which makes them almost identical to Croatian Dalmatians in culture and mentality.

Furthermore, the Croatian-Italian relations have improved greatly over the past few years, and now many Italian Dalms. are returning to their homeland.
