I think that in these lyrics the guy or women that is signing the song cannot be close to something or get close to someone because of the part "Let me watch by the fire and remember my days, And it may be a trick of the firelight, But the flickering pages that, trouble my sight, Is a book I'm afraid to write" because when it says let me watch by the fire and remember the days probably means that he can get close to a certain person and he has a limit to how close he can be near that person, hence it says let me watch by the fire. He also misses the time he spent with that person because he says something about remembering his days. He is probably also getting too old and he doesn't want to get older so he wants to remember the things that he did when he was young. "It's the book of my days, it's the book of my life, And it's cut like a fruit on the blade of a knife, And, it's all there to see as the section reveals, There's some sorrow in every life" When he says that it's the book of his life he probably means that when he was younger it's the book of his life and he wishes that it could still be like that and he wouldn't have to get older because every time that he remembers when he was young he wishes he was young again because he had a lot of fun in his previous years of life. |
