| The last time you were in Fuel
was the last time you'll ever be in Fuel. The Queer
New Year Party on December 31st was
the last hurrah for one of Dunedin's most
treasured nightspots. No venue could match Fuel's
good vibe or decor. The $2 pint
Wednesdays were a crowd favourite and the Lounge
Sweet nights championed by Andy
Flyboy and Daddy Cool were some of the best
nights of any week.
As word spread of the
impending closure, Scott found it hard to be
there with everyone turning up for their last
coffee: "Everything has it's time" he
said and though sadly cut short, Fuel's was a
bloody good one. And, as the saying goes, that's
business.
My most enduring memory of
Fuel came at the end of the Tinsel
Christmas Party (which in itself was a
bizzarre night): Andy and I had been reduced to
playing half-hour sets inbetween three to four
hard-ass rock bands, which was odd - but we still
had a great time. They amused me no-end... When
Doug (Daddy Cool) turned up he took the night to
a fantastic close; Last Song: Love to Love
You Baby by Donna Summer. As the track faded,
an air of deep nostalgia filled the space.
Everyone left singing those few words: Love to
love you baby.
Love to love you Fuel.
