I admit it, it took a while for me to notice this young blue-liner. But in the past year (2000-01) Danny has become my most favourite NHL player. With no goals and 10 assists in the 99-00 season, danny didn't exactly tear up the NHL offensively. This past year he improved on those numbers with 3 goals and 13 assists, as well as his overall game. Danny's numbers are not what I love about him. I really love Danny because of the type of player that he is. "You win with the Danny Markovs, who view competition as the rest of us do oxygen. He's got a heart bigger than a house and feelings siphoned through mangled English." The words of Mike Ulmer of the Toronto Sun. Whoever says Eupopean players have no heart obviously haven't seen this Russian defenseman, who's feisty play often goes unnoticed. Markov has never been timid on the ice, checking with gusto, yapping all the time, and getting under the skin of opposing stars. He has been known for hurling himself into high-risk areas, sacrificing his body to block shots that most other players would avoid, and he isn't afraid to deliver a good hard body check. He has yet to play more than 59 games a season, due to injuries. All this, (along with his funny personality!) are what make me love and respect Danny Markov so much. He earned the nickname 'Elivis' after his teammates picked up on his fashion style. He likes wearing black leather jackets, turned-up collars, sunglasses and suede shoes. I heard he impersonates Elvis in the dressing room, but I don't know for sure...it's just a rumour. Another rumour has Danny impersonating Britney Spears' "Oops....I did it again". Danny's teamates on the leafs have all said what a great presense Danny is in the dressing room, he has such a great sense of humour.
