Nice - France
With a population of 340,000, this city sits on the Mediterranean Sea at the foot of the Alps Maritimes. The bay water appears to be in three different colors, which is made by the different depth of water. The color near the shore is mixed with green and blue; the middle layer becomes light blue; and the deeper layer becomes navy blue.
The chief resort of the French Riviera. Its old and new parts are separated by a small stream, the Paillon. Embankments and promenades, including the Promenade des Anglais, line the sea frontage. The city and bay are protected from severe climatic changes by the mountains on the north.
