Volmer Jensen�

from Glendale, California.�� He has more then 24 designs to his credit, of which the Sportsman is design number 22.� Jensen began design on the VJ-22 in September 1957, and the first flight was in December 1958. The VJ-22 is 24 feet long, eight feet high, wingspan 36 feet six inches. Empty weight of 1,000 lbs.

Two main variations of the VJ-22 sportsman are commonly seen, the tractor and pusher-engine.
The pusher has the engine turned around with the prop at the rear and is the original design.
The tractor version is designed with the prop in the front of the engine.


One of the more notable projects to come out of his shop, in 1964, was the original model of Starship Enterprise(R)� for the Star Trek(R) television series. It's cost $600 (Air and Space, April/May 1992).
