RUPERT GRINT
Rupert was the first of 5 children born to Nigel, a race-car memorabilia dealer, now 38, and Jo, a homemaker, now 34. He was born August 24, 1988. Thirteen-year-old Rupert enjoys acting very much and has been in numerous school plays such as the gangster Rooster in "Annie" (or in the UK, called "The Little Orphan Annie"). In an interview with CNN,  Rupert said it was a big step going from being a fish in a Noah's Ark play to being Ron in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Being a big fan of the Harry Potter series, he said he is very similar to his character, Ron. He likes sweets, he's afraid of spiders, he has a big family (1 brother and 3 sisters), and he has red hair. After hearing about an open casting call for the movie on BBC's Newsround, Rupert sent in a photo and resume. After a few weeks, he heard that kids were sending in tapes of themselves acting. He created an original script of him acting as Ron. He also dressed up as his drama teacher (a girl!!) and acted as her. Finally, he created a rap in which he said why he wanted to and should be Ron. This earned him multiple screen tests and meetings with director Chris Columbus and Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling.

He found out that he got the part at the same time as Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the film. When they got onto the set, it really kicked in that they were Hogwarts students. He especially liked the set of the Great Hall. His favorite scenes were the Devil's Snare scene, where he got dropped from about 50 feet into the snare, and the larger-than-life chess scene. He said the chess scene was his favorie because after being in the sidelight behing Harry for the entire flim, Ron got to take control for once. He especially liked sitting on his Knight horse. One of his most memorable moments was when he was drawing a rather unflattering picture of Prof. Snape (Alan Rickman) not knowing Alan was standing right behind him! Rupert says he was lucky that Rickman had a good sense of humor!

Rupert says he likes being a star and having people know his name. He says its "cool". He will be in the upcoming film "Thunderpants". He had to get a 4-hour perm to play this part! Maybe that's how he chose his user name on BBC's Harry Potter message board, Permlessboy!  We look forward to see Rupert in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!!
