Well, Ive finally made it to Detroit for treatment. I start anti-viral IVs tomorrow at 9 oclock in the morning. I learned today that Im not going to have to go to the hospital twice a day to receive the IVs, Im going to be giving them to myself here in the apartment. A nurse will come once a week to bring me more supplies and to change the shunt that will be put in my arm tomorrow. The shunt is there so I wont have to stick my arm twice a day everyday. I must admit that although I am looking forward to seeing if this really works, I am much less anxious than I was in January. I had to wait 2 months to be sure I was clear of a bacterium in my spinal fluid. So I am starting treatment 3 months after I originally thought I would. Well, enough for today. I hope this goes well, this could be my ticket to health!!

Well, I survived my first day of treatment. Instead of putting a shunt in my arm like I said before, it is actually a pick line (which is a very thin catheter (sp?) placed into one of my veins. I, unfortunately, have very small veins and it almost didnt work. We were gonna have to go back to the hospital today or tomorrow and have radiology take an x-ray of my veins so they know exactly where there is one to pick. BUT the nurse did a blind stick and found a vein to work. A home healthcare nurse came yesterday and taught me to give the IVs to myself. I gave my morning IV to myself and all went well. Im not suffering from any side-effects, which is great. I only have a little soreness in my arm from being poked a lot but other than that, nothing. So far, so good.
