I think it really started with the novel itself by Gaston Leroux which I found a copy of in this little antique book-store in town. The only thing that popped up in my mind when I read the title was a music piece called "The music of the night" that I had played for my piano-lessons before. After the novel I found the soundtrack to the musical and I became completely enchanted by the music (especially Michael Crawford's voice). So one day I read in the paper that the show was coming to Copenhagen, and since I live in Malm it was no problem. So me, my sister, my mum and my stephfather drove over the bridge to Copenhagen.

The theatre was incredibly beautiful, but the funny thing was that it was sort of squeezed together in this very little ally, but inside........wow!!!!!! There was gilded angels and sphinxes, the floor was marbled, there was a T-shaped stair and (of course) a very big chandelier that hung in the ceiling, it was really a feast for the eyes and for the soul.

Jrn Pedersen played the part of the Phantom that night and he was soooooooo incredibly wonderful, he's got this dark and (as my singing-teacher would say) rich voice, he's got a lot to give with it. And not only his voice but his body language was incredibly erotic and sexy and he seemed so romantic. And he had this great charisma, he really made this dark and mysterious man that you really got curious about. I completely fell in love with that phantom........ also. :D

Christine that night was played by Hanne Damm and she was really great she created Christine like this little innocent child that she actually is, she really looked great in that part, especially with her big Audrey Hepburn, doe like-eyes. A number that she made really, really great was the "Wishing you were somehow here again", you could really feel her despair and her longing for her father. Her voice was very pure and operatic - but not too operatic - it made her handle the high notes fantastically.

Raoul that night was played by Bjrn Olsson and he was a hunk and hey!......he's Swedish!!!! His danish was flawless the only time it cracked a little was when he thanked Madame Giry before he jumped into the lake. Bjrn had this smooth voice, very young and sweet with very much texture it reminded me a little bit of Josh Groban. He seemed very protective and brave, he was the Raoul that you really wanted to see. You could tell that he had played that part before.

The rest of the cast was also fabulous, Carlotta was played by Vera Borisova and she really created this snobby, diva-person who puts herself above everyone else. Piangi was played by Marcello Ronchietto and he was very fun, the coolest actually.

Anna Grnros played Meg, her dancing was wonderful and hey!....she's also Swedish!!! She seemed so cute and innocent, the perfect Meg. After the show my tears streamed down my face, thank God I was wearing water-proof mascara, my mum broke down, my sister remained unmoved - but my stephfather actually shead a tear or two (but he was to chicken to admit it later). That was my first "phantom"-night and I loved it with my entire being.

Love from Caroline.
