A Good Sign of Things to Come...

Your Sycamore Highlands Neighborhood Park
Unlike some signs that indicate "No" this or that, anew sign posted at Fair Isle and Abernathy Drive is a sign of things to come, namely our long awaited park.  This sign proves what determination and the support of a community can accomplish.  As some are or are not aware, the promise of a Park in our community began over 10 years ago.  Of course this may not seem soon enough to many of you, but had your committee not been so diligent in it's efforts, we may not have seen our park for many years.  There are also several park sites in our city that have waited some 30 plus years and work has still not even begun.

This June the Parks and Recreation department is scheduled to prepare the park's documents to go out to bid, the planning permits will be sought and then a plan check will be held.  This equates to approximately 8 weeks.  Bids will be submitted within 60 days and in approximately September of 2003, they will be presented to City Council.  In other words, work on the park shoudl begin in October or Mid-November, 2003.  Although we had thought and hoped our park woudl be a reality this year, realistically it may not be ready for the community until mid 2004.  We, the Sycamore Highland Action Group, will monitor the city's time-lines in order to be sure our park's opening will remain on schedule.
