~In Memory of Splotch~

      1994-October 18th, 1997

      Splotch Heckert

Splotch was one of our two very first gerbils. She was a spotted/pied agouti gerbil that we bought at the local pet store. When we got her we knew she was an adult, probably six to eight months old. She was the one who was originally living with the gerbil mommy, Missy. When Pookie and Missy got "married", Splotch moved into her own blue cage. Realizing this gerbil couldn't possibly live alone, we got her a little friend, Missy and Pookie's first daughter, Alpha Dani. The two lived together for over a year and a half, until Alpha died in August of 1997.

Now alone, Splotchie lived in a big two story red cage (see picture above), and while it was a beautiful home and lots of fun, it couldn't replace her little friend. By then Splotch had to be two and a half or three years old, nearing the end of an average gerbie lifespan. Sadly, on October 11th it seemed she'd had a stroke. She didn't move much and seemed to be paralyzed down one side. We tried to get her to eat and drink as much as possible, but she was obviously not doing too well. We tried our best to make her comfortable, which was hard because she had no gerbil company, but eventually she died on October 18th, 1997. She will be missed = (

We have left Splotch's page open for you to browse through and read what was written about this wonderful little gerbil while she was alive. Go to Splotch's page
