Dan Worcester was born in Bozeman, Montana (USA) in 1965. Growing up in North Carolina as the son of a Presbyterian pastor active in the civil rights
movement, he was confronted with, and became sensitized to, blatant discrimination faced by Afro-americans. He further developed his cultural awareness
musically throughout his studies at the University of Montana (Missoula). Two of his most rewarding experiences were performance in Professor Lance
Boyd's 'Jazz Workshop' bands and participation in Professor Donald Carey's 4-month study/perform abroad program, 'Chamber Chorale in Residence in
Vienna' in 1989. After finishing his degree, Dan left Montana to teach general music, choir and band in the rural Alaskan village of Kalskag. He returned to
Vienna in 1992 and is currently studying music theory under Professor Christian Minkowitsch at the Vienna Conservatory. Since 1995 he has directed
workshops at the International Choir Seminar in Zell and der Pram, Austria (directed by Wolfgang Bruneder, Schola Cantorum Klosterneuberg) and in 1997
guest-directed at the Kantata Kaltenberg (directed by Johannes Hiemetsberger, Sine Nomine)
