| Talents |
| It is my understanding that Magick seems to be expresesed in the form of talents. That is to say that the limitations, function and scope of ones natural metaphysical ability are formed by a combination of nature and nurture into a relatively concrete expression I will call Metaphysical Talents. The type, strength and variety of Metaphysical Talents ( here after referred to as MP talents) is as diverse as the human race itself, and in order to better understand what I am talking about, I shall do my best to define this succinctly. An MP talent is in essence a spell that is available all the time, relative to energy level, that has a particular affect on reality in one or more ways. Many occultists refer to these sorts of spells or affects by classifying them into Spheres. I will come back to this, but first,here is an example of a common talent: A person who posesses photographic memory. Yes, this is by definition a talent. The function of memory is primarily metaphysical as the soul in it's formlessness is what enables us to store data permanently within the mind (50% metaphysical energy, 50% percent physical energy.) The recall and accessibility of the perfect recall are functions of the Soul ( Form/Formlessness paradox) and the functionary ability to use that recall lies within the Mind through the physical or material energy ( structure/change paradox). The paradox is what fuels the spell or talent and the invocation of the paradox to achieve an effect is what defines it as a spell. This idea is based upon the nature of Creation which exists in a state of balance perpetuated by all paradox being always invoked. All true Magick is in essence the act of invoking that paradox by altering the balance in order to achieve an affect. The above example of an MP talent is of course a minor power, but it is no less useful in illustrating the nature of how a talent functions. The Why is a great deal more complicated and requires a great deal of introspection on the part of the Mage, for the ways that an MP talent may be formed are more numerous than the talents themselves. Talents do fall into different categories, which I will address here briefly. All MP talents fall into these categories ( though many subdivisions are possible.) Talents that function primarily through the mind, SEEING (Temporal, Sensory enhancement, Clairvoyance, Telepathy, OBE, etc.) and those that function primarily through the Soul, FEELING ( manipulative abilities such as coercion, enchantment, functional enhancement, probability manipulation at the quantuum level, and various PK types of abilities.) Though it is useful to note that PK has become a very generalized term and has, as a result lost much of it's definitive meaning. That's just my opinion. Most talents are very limited in scope and fade naturally without use, but there do still exist a number of individuals that posess strong MP talents. There would seem to be an astounding number of individuals alive today that posess Seeing talents to one degree or another the cause of which is most certainly the topic of another essay yet to come, but for now we will focus on the Feeling abilities in theory and practice. However be warned. If you have come expecting complex rituals and ceremonies you will be dissapointed. The system of Magick espoused here does not dwell upon the catalystic nature of ceremony and ritual. Rather it requires the student to force permanent change upon himself to break down internal psychological barriers that are in fact all that really hold anyone back from achieving success in any pursuit. "Whether you believe you can, or you believe you can't, you are right." (Henry Ford) The energy within us is based upon our connection to the divine. Our evolution is unto that divine nature from which we come. Everything else is just an experience, and no spell can ever equal the awe inspiring nature of the one Word spell which is Creation. All study of MP ability is an attempt to mirror that perfection and will fall short. Our task does not change. This is but one way, useful in the circumstances of the moment. It is not contradictory to the true nature of any religion, but instead is derived from the truth in all religions and requires awareness with open eyes and raised face, not humility and a bowed head. It, like all attempts at change, does however require, rebirth. The first thing you must do is ascertain the nature and scope of your MP talent. This may be a piece of cake or it may challenge all your previously held beliefs and thus be nearly impossible. It will in some way, be an enhancement of who you are and what you can do. A politician for example may posess an MP talent of enchantment in some form. He would be doubtfully aware of that talent as expressed here, and yet such a talent would be fused in who he is and what he does. He has used his MP talent to it's fullest by fueling the power of his Mind and Body. This is how most people use their MP talents. For the Mage this is insufficient. The Mage must rediscover his talent and thus increase his power exponentially. ~ |
