ABOUT ME

So this is more about how I decided to pursue a career in comedy.  I’m not putting any of my jokes up yet.  Maybe in a few years when I want to be booked for entertainment.

This summer when Bob Hope died, I checked out his book “Don't Shoot, It's Only Me!” from LFPL (an abbreviation I don't find myself saying all too much if any).  After reading it, I gave thought to pursuing a career in stand-up, so I jotted some jokes down in a notebook and typed them up thereafter.

During the end of October, my younger brother was scrolling through the student activities list on the college’s website.  I glanced over and saw there was an improv troupe.  Being a big fan of SNL (stop reading right now if you don’t know what SNL is the abbreviation for), and I have seen Whose Line many times, I decided to join the troupe.  I asked around to see if anyone knew anything about it.  Just my luck, my RA (that’s Resident Advisor for you people out there) was one of the founders.  We have rehearsals every Wednesday night for 3-4 hrs and our December 2003 semester-ending show will be on mainstage at the campus theatre (which seats nearly 300).  For the extravaganza show next semester, half the proceeds will go towards an animal shelter.

I don't know how much you know about Second City, but it is something I plan to do after college—especially considering its historical connections to SNL and even Mad TV.  In order to better prepare me for Second City, I plan to take courses in creative writing and even theatre.  I would have never seen myself (during high school) as even considering a class in theatre.  When I was in 8th grade, I always wanted to take a class in creative writing at Ballard but never had the opportunity.  Here, I can take 3-4 courses in creative writing alone.  I definitely will not be a creative writing minor--I don’t want to deal with all of the literature periods if you know what I mean.  I don't plan to write a novel--only sketches and scripts.  I definitely will minor in theatre being that my meeting went well with a professor in the first week of December 2003.
