The Team is a collaboration between the WMU ROTC program and WMU's Student Activities and Leadership Programs. This club is a student led organization and provides basic marksmanship skills, the fundamentals of safe shooting and teamwork to young shooters (old farts like me are also welcome). The program is run by qualified shooting trainer from the ROTC Cadre. WMU students not affiliated with the ROTC department are welcome to participate on the team. All rifles, shooting equipment, and safety equipment are provided by the Military Science Department.
The WMU Rifle Team consists of a collegiate level smallbore, .22 caliber rifle team and an informal, precision air rifle team. The .22 caliber rifles are of the Harrington & Richardson Cal .22 M12 and Anschutz 1903 Cal .22 (Not sure). Team practices weekly TUESDAY from 1430 - 1800hrs at the Southern Michigan Gun Club indoor range, and also run various military exercise on FRIDAY from 1200 - 1430hrs. This group competes in both Postal and Inter-collegiate events throughout the year. The department facilitates air rifle shooting at the indoor ROTC Building on occasion using Daisy Air Rifles and indoor targets.
