Lori Brooks shows that it can be said that the number one reason students choose online education over traditional classrooms is for the flexibility of the programs. The learners are able to review their class lectures and material anytime or anywhere (2003).
Other research indicates that cost is an additional determining factor which most online students (OS) consider. This same research concludes that traditional students (TS) feel that they receive more from the classroom arrangement through greater contact with instructors and students and less chance to delay completing their coursework. TS also perceive a more frequent meaningful educational experience (Ramage, 2002).
More women than are men enroll in online classes. They also had experience with being married they either were married or had been married and they had children at home. These results, of a survey conducted by Halsne and Gatta at a local community college, indicate other facts about TS versus OS. There appears to be an age difference with OS being in the range from 26-55 and the TS age being 25 years old or less. Following is a table representing the pertinent findings of their study (Halsne & Gatta, 2002).

The following table is composed of information found in the 2004 report from a survey conducted by the DETC (Distance Education and Training Council). It is additional support of other findings included in this project. This information was initially provided as a simple list of findings. There is no suggested interpretation of these numbers in the report (DETC, 2004).
