UGLY DUCKLING
She is an ugly duckling,
Sitting alone in the corner,
Lost
in her fairy tales,
And waiting for her
Prince to come,
And turn her
into a swan.
She is fluttering wings impatiently,
But she will never take
flight.
She thinks, "I am not meant to be happy,"
And knows that if he did
come for her,
She would never have a chance,
To prove she is worth
something regardless.
She sits alone because,
She is afraid this is as
good as it gets,
And society has conditioned her,
To think too much,
In
an effort to outguess life's cruelties.
She is standing on an abyss in her
mind,
Because if she cannot have the fairy tale,
She would rather
jump.
She is wishing of a time,
When things were more easily black and
white,
And she knew what she wanted.
Most frightening is the
realisation,
That if she does not,
She will never reach her full
potential,
And she will always be,
An ugly duckling,
Sitting alone in
the corner.
