TITLE I MATH
                       at
      Beth-Center Elementary

Each year, our district receives federal funded monies so that we can provide more individualized instruction to our students. We also host the annual MATH FAIR and the Problem of the Week Program. Both of these are fun, educational events in which I encourage you and your family to participate.
In fifth grade math, your child may be identified as being eligible for Title I services based on a series of assessments given at the end of fouth grade.  This year those assessments include the Math Competency Test, Final Chapter Test and Final Performace Task, and the IOWA Test of Basic Skills. Teacher reccommendations based on classroom performance and observation also play a role in deciding which students may need additional support.  This upcoming year we will be making changes to assessment choices and the indentification process, so stay tuned for those updates.

RESOURCE ROOM GUIDELINES

              Materials may be kept for
2 WEEKS.
             Check-out limit:
2 items per child per visit.

I encourage you to take advantage of this excellent resource.
If your child was indentified for Title I math services, we will provide additional support needed to reinforce math skills and improve ability.  This will be done by providing small group support and by using a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual needs.  Several days a week those Title I students will receive the small group instruction during their SCHEDULED MATH TIME.  (They will not be pulled from any other subject).  Also, I have worked into my schedule a Diagnostic Prescriptive Instruction (D.P.I.) time to work with those students who may need additional practice on a particular skills.  This D.P. I time will occur during the students' recess.

Mrs. Vuono, the classroom math teacher, and I coordinate instruction and align the math curriculum to the fifth grade state mathematics standards and anchors. (These can be found on the PA Department of Education webpage. A link to this site can be found on my homepage.) Together, we will monitor and continually assess student progress and make necessary recommendations.

Please contact me should you have any questions regarding the Title I program.
