| Rising Adelaide-born ballet stars Danielle Rowe and Remi Wortmeyer have enjoyed paralel careers but a pas de deux (duet) may never be. They're appearing in Australian Ballet's family production La Fille mal gardee at the Adelaide Festival Theatre until Thursday. "I'm too tall for him!" said Rowe with a laugh as she and Wortmeyer explained the similarties between their careers. Both started very young in Adelaide - Danielle at four with Cheryl Bradley Dancing School and Remi at six with Pierrot School of Ballet."We competed against each other for many years, especially in the solo section and I was the only boy." Remi said with a laugh. Rowe added: "I don't know why more boys don't do ballet - surrounded by beautiful girls all the time" Both joined the Australian Ballet in Melbourne when they were 18 and are now scoring solo roles - reward for their development as two of the company's brightest young stars. La Fille mal gardee is a fun boy-meets-girl story with a twist.Danielle performs the girlfriend role and Remi plays the Cockerill."I've never danced as a rooster before but he's a lot of fun to portray," Remi said. Danielle added: "This is for the whole family...a great introduction to the joy of ballet. Article by Matt Byrne |
