| Red-Eared Slider The little greens turtles often sold in pet stores that have outgrown their owners and set free-although Federal Laws says that turtles under 4 inches can not be sold-some pet stores do still sell them. Red Eared Sliders are now breeding in PA and taking up the habitat of native turtles. They are small and cute when purchased but quickly grow-attaining 5 to 8 inches in length. They are very active and make a good pet but only for the person who has the time to care for them. Please do not let your pet turtle go into the wild, instead contact a turtle rescue service, better yet-don't buy an animal that you do not intend to keep for it's entire lifetime. |
| Important Note Turning pet animals "free" in not only bad for the environment but the animals many times suffer and die.. See the Non-Native Page for more information. |
