It seems that Vero Beach HS in Vero Beach really knows how to mold national Mu Alpha Theta presidents. At the 2002 National Convention in Starkville, MS, Vero Beach sponsor Susan Hiller was named President of the National Mu Alpha Theta Governing Council, and rising senior Yan Zhong was named Student Delegate President. Congratulations to Mrs. Hiller and Yan!
Effective with the 2002-2003 competition season, Palm Beach County will compete in region 3 instead of region 5, as it had in seasons past.
The proposal to send two teams from Florida to the ARML competition at Penn State University in May 2003 has been cancelled. The team organizers were unable to find funding for the costs of the trip and decided it would cost each competitor too much for the weekend to make the trip worthwhile.

In an email dated August 14, 2002, Dr. Thom Morris writes:
The 33rd annual Mu Alpha Theta National Convention will be held July 20 - 25, 2003, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Emory Conference Center Hotel, a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired venue. The registration fee will be $425 per participant registered prior to April 1 with a $50 non-refundable deposit, with the remainder due by May 15. Between April 1 and May 15, the registration will be $450. NO LATE REGISTRATIONS will be accepted. All registration will be done online at http://www.mualphatheta.org. Further information about contacts, testing, speaker sessions, awards, etc., will soon be found there also.
