Vestavia Hills High School in Alabama placed first at the 1999 MAO national convention. The next three positions were held by Florida schools -- Vero Beach was second, Stoneman Douglas third, and Berkeley Prep fourth.It was the third-in-a-row win for Vestavia Hills at Mu Alpha Theta national conventions.
Vero Beach finished second this year and last year, and third in 1997.
Florida won all three state bowls. The Florida teams consisted of:
- Mu - Ben Richardson, Devlyn Brown, Andrew Curtis, David Wilson
- Alpha - Darrin Gershman, Adam Siegel, Greg Leigh, Sarah Ko
- Theta/Euclid - Mauro Braunstein, Emily Niu, Jeremy Miller, David Held
Ben Richardson of Vero Beach won the Mu division after winning a tie-breaker with Devlyn Brown, also of Vero Beach. Darrin Gershman of Stoneman Douglas won the Alpha division after winning a tie-breaker with Adam Siegel of H. B. Plant.
