| Airless | JoaG | Gen | Based not long after 'Need', the team encounter a
planet where the breathing air isn't always taken for granted. This is a lovely whumpfest for Daniel (and even for Jack and the others) with an intriguing, orginal plot and fascinating aliens. Jo shows Daniel's guilt over what happened in Need perfectly, as well as Jack's way of showing Daniel that the team never blamed him anyway. |
| Echoes of Autumn | Moonshayde | Gen | This is an emotionally intense and intriguing
psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. What's real in this story and what's not? That's the question Jack has to decide. His journey forces him to examine his relationships with his team mates--especially Daniel. It takes some concentration to get through this story because it's very detailed and tightly woven, but it's well worth the effort! An excellent fic! |
| He Ain't Heavy | Mara-Dragonmaster | Gen | This is a nice little friendship piece between
Jack and Daniel. It is written from Jack's POV. It uses one of the fandom classics - Jack and Daniel stuck on a planet together, trapped, trying to get the to the Gate with Jaffa all around. Jack is hurt, Daniel is trying to get them home. A good little story for a short read. |
| Seconds | Travelling One | Gen | This story is a tag for "Avatar" which
was not one of my favorite episodes but I have notice quite a few nice little fanfic pieces about it. In this one Daniel still suffers from being able to see seconds into the future. This all comes to a head when he and the team with General Jack are caught off world when Daniel starts reacting to things that haven't happened yet. It causes lots of bad things to happen to the team and leaves Daniel near insane. I liked it quite a bit! |
| Try Again | Tefnut | Gen | This is an interesting take on aliens and their interest in
Daniel. In this story they actually take away Daniel's ability to communicate. How Daniel deals with it - is interesting and somewhat different than how I would have chosen to have Daniel deal with it. But what really made me rec this story is the author's handling of Rothman. Seriously, the author knows this minor character and you can actually hear him speaking. Well done. |
| Mine Enemy | Cat | Gen | This was well worth the read. A lot of Daniel whumping, with some gruesome parts so be warned. It takes 'Enemy Mine' to a new level. Well written and along with its sequel a must for team moments and Jack and Daniel friendship stuff. A mystery, a worried Jack and some misunderstanding between the Unas and military. |
| Mine Friend | Cat | Gen | Sequel to Mine Enemy. |
| The Cosmic Joker | Nicci | Pre-slash | Jack begins collecting evidence when it becomes apparent that Fate is trying to get him and Daniel together. Featuring Hero!Jack AND Hero!Daniel, plus wine, wolves, and loincloths, it's a delight to see the boys arrive at the same conclusion. |
| The Garden Party | Antares | Slash | this is one of those alternate-boy stories, the
kind that get spawned when an ep takes a walk down an alternate path, like in The
Changeling when Teal'c has visions of Our DANIEL as a shrink and jack as a fireman. I don't really see these stories as A/U though the author labels it as such, because we're playing with characters that actually did exist in the show for a short amount of time. this isn't Our Daniel and Our Jack transplanted into some other story. Its the real guys from a real episode, hence, alter-boys. this is a very sweet romantic story, as if those two did not disapear when Teal'c woke up, as if that timeline had continued in some plane of existence other than T's fevered mind. and alter-Daniel the shrink was.............. GORGEOUS. and alter-Jack the fireman was manly manly lovely ohhh swooon. It's a great piece of writing, well crafted, well paced and I found it a delight to read, though, it took me days after seeing it posted to work up the nerve to read it, i was afraid it would not be too pleasant. but it was fab. a good balance of internal conflict and external conversation. she shows us the story with great visuals. |
| Complications | Darcy | Slash | a/u jack is a baseball player. i haven't read this one in a while, but it is a nice little a/u story as jack as a ball player and daniel is the new kid on the team, so jack takes him under his wing.... |
| Flashover | Teri Stearns | Slash | This is another story that takes place in the
universe created in the episode Changeling. This woman says she has never written J/D
before, and I thought she did pretty darn good with it. There is an element of angst to it, but cuttingly so, and we get to see Daniel work as the psychologist. |
| A Life Lived | Sideburns | Slash | This is my all time number one Keeper!! Sideburns weaves a tale that starts in dark dispair and ends in blinding happiness and glory. It all centers on Daniel and how everyone from General Hammond down to the cooks in the Commissary (sp) realises how important he is to their lives. It's a wonderful Jack/Daniel story and is also full of Teamy goodness as well. When a story can make me cry, laugh and basically go through every other emotion imaginable then it is definitely a story to read over and over again. One scene in particular makes me cry everytime, when Jack realises what Daniel means to everyone in the SGC and that Daniel has no idea himself. |
| Of Man's Desiring | Brighid | Slash | This is a very short piece about Daniel's love for Jack and the place it has in his world. I love the tone of this, very thoughtful and almost distant. A lovely read. |
| Good Days | Karita Wyr | Slash | Should be called Seal of Adoration, more
accurately. This is one of those gems that shows the guys just doing ordinary stuff. It bounced to mind cause of the recent rec for "Of Mans Desiring" by Brigid. These are stories of the same genre, in that they show the guys in their ordinary life moments, just living, just being normal people. Good Days is a wonderful story to just sit back and enjoy at the end of a rough day. It's just plain NICE, and we can never have too much nice in the world. Imagine a whole book store devoted to nothing but stargate fanfic of all types. there'd be a section of shelves of romance, some for adventure, there'd be the slash part of the store, the ship part, the ... etc. and there'd be a section of just simply nice sweet "just life". this belongs there with a nice blue ribbon announcing it as recommended by the store employees. |
