Resume

I have worked in the media for  three decades, starting with the Comunicacion Aztlan programming collective at KPFA in 1971.

I have been a leader in innovative multicultural public broadcast programming working at KQED-TV with the local production unit, "Open Studio" in 1975-76, as General Manager of WYBE-TV, Philadelphia (1992-95) and as General Manager of KALW-FM, San Francisco, 1985-92. TV programs I’ve produced have been broadcast by PBS stations in Boston, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, and San Francisco, amongst many other stations. While serving as Director of Training and Development at Corporation for Public Broadcasting in Washington, D.C., I managed national training programs. While manager of KALW-FM, I worked with the San Francisco Unified School District staff to provide educational use of the radio station.

I’ve had a continuing involvement with Latino culture, first as co producer of a weekly 2 hour radio broadcast magazine titled "Reflecciones de la Raza," for four years at KPFA-FM, Berkeley, California, and as the founding co editor of "Tin Tan,” a Latino cultural magazine published in San Francisco, California. In 1984, I worked as field producer and associate editor on a videotape promoting peace in Central America, "Peace Boat," was produced for the Fellowship of Reconciliation, an international Christian organization.

Recently I was part of a 7-person team of producers/reporters that created a one-hour radio program titled, “Chile, Promise of Freedom,” that was broadcast by radio stations around the world on the occasion of the 30 year anniversary since the first terrorist 9-11, the one that happened in Chile in 1973. Radio Hilversum, Holland’s international radio service, broadcast the program world-wide using its extensive short wave radio network.

I’m interested in developing innovative educational uses of broadcast and internet media serving the national and international community.
