| SCHEDULE AND ACTIVITIES |
| We do many activities at class. The classes begin at 9:00 am, and the first class is basicallly for grammar...some times we do: Excercises of the green book: - Conversations: read the conversations and look for new words. - Grammar Focus: activities to practice the grammar of the unit's subject. - Writing: you do it in your house, and it's about the unit's subject. - Reading: in class, to look for new vocabulary. Learning new words: - Opposites - Synonyms - Noun-verb-adjetive Learning the pronunciation of some words. Recording a conversation with the Steve's video camera. Classes in the computer lab. Planning activities to do in home by ourselves: - He makes copies of the cassettes of the green book, and he gives it to us, to do the listening's exercises of the book. - He appointed Elsy and Carolina to edit the ESL Newspaper, and he encourages us to write articles for it. If you want to see the first edition, which is already finished, just - He lends us some video cassettes, with interesting programs and documentals of Discovery Channel, to practice our listening. - He gives us the savtrav's cassette to practice our listening, doing the excercise of "listen", "stop", "copy" and "play again". Then, we can check with the text in the savtrav's web page. - He tells us to write compositions, without dictionaries, to practice our fast writing and to realize of our mistakes. Also it's a good idea to type it to practice english typing and to notice very well the mistakes that we made. It's a good exercise, I promise it you. - The ESL Book Project. See below what this is!!! Another activity that you can do, is to write to some of the students os teachers in the Steve's school of Honolulu in Hawaii. In this way, you can make a new penpal and you can practice your grammar sending a copy to Steve. If you are interesting, look at the list of students and teahers in this page: Also, you can call Alex....he is a Talk's student, and he's from Brazil......he usually makes barbecues in his house, tennis' games, swimming, etc. It's a good idea to meet him....don't be emabarrased, he also wants to practice his English....his phone number is 5240775. I have called him, and he's very nice. Steve's class finish at 10:45 am. We have a break time to 11:00 am., and then we have the conversation class with Dean. This is Dean In this class we: Do some vocabulary activity that Dean brings. Do a polemic about some controversial subject.....we all discuss it, and it' very interesting. Play pictionary. Write a song that someone brings. Read and discuss some article of the newspaper. Tell the others what are you going to do on the weekend, or what did you do during it. Read some internet article about USA Holidays. This class is until 12:40 pm., then you can go, to continue your learning at your home.....make it a pleasant work, and you will see how much you will learn without realize of it!! |
| The ESL Book Project The ESL Book, is a Steve project to new students....it's "English for a Succesful Live in the USA". The book is going to contain useful tools and advices to survive in the USA. This is a big project, because it's being written by students, and edited by Steve. It contains many topics of how is the life here......like transportation, family, finance, education,....etc. In general, everything that a person have to know to live here. If you have some idea or some experience that you have had in the USA, send it to Steve at [email protected] The book also contains some grammar exercises and vocabulary..most of them written for intermediate and advanced students. We, the Talk's students, have written something for each topic....and that has been beneficial also for us, because we practice the grammar and Steve correct our mistakes.
