The Richard Obrzut Guide to Las Vegas
Las Vegas Things To Do & See
Bellagio-fountains, there is a view to watch from inside or from a walkway or from the railing as in Ocean’s Eleven
Caesars Palace-the mall walk has 2 “talking/moving statues at the end of a “spoke” –the older one with Bacchus is fair, but the one about the race for Atlantis is super-they start on the hour-now in 2006, the shops have more wings and are even 3 stories high in places-high end to medium end stores
Las Vegas Hilton- Star Trek Experience is worth the price even if you’re not a Trekie
Mirage-an erupting volcano, but not really that special - white tigers and dolphins (they cost a bit to see), tigers are seen when walking through the lobby
Treasure Island- There is a staged pirate battle outside the hotel. Stick around after the show to see the ships rise out of the water.
Imperial Palace-the antique car museum, but only if you’re into cars
Stratosphere-roller coaster & “drop” rides are spectacular & their top floor restaurant is classy but not cheap-need reservations(best at night)
Margaritaville-restaurant next to the Flamingo-worth the wait to sit on the main floor-super gift shop(plane hangs from the ceiling on the main floor)
Excalibur- knighthood stuff, usually lots of kids around
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino-souvenir tee shirts, music memorabilia, east of strip a few blocks, Harmon & Paradise
Places to walk through that are worth the walk=Luxor, Venetian, Paris, New York, New York (roller coaster when working)
Hoover Dam tours available- neat if you’ve never seen it
Downtown outdoor shopping mall-enter via Bonneville Street-lots of stores, lots of bargains
Downtown-go at night to see the Freemont Street Experience which starts about 9 and goes on hourly-it’s a free laser-light show which covers 3 city blocks
Beer- Mirage’s microbrewery and downtown’s Main Street Station’s microbrewery
Out-of-the way casinos- Sunset
Station(#1 choice) in Henderson
--New for 2006 are Southcoast at the far,
far south end of the Strip and Red Rock about 20 min. west
of the Strip
--Texas and Fiesta(across the
street from
each other)
--Santa Fe
--There is a new Fiesta even farther east than
Sunset Station
--Palace Station—Orleans—Sam’s Town, reasonable
food at
these places
The Palms-home of “beautiful people”and now a Playboy Club, good buffet, hardwood floor casino, across the street from the Rio.
Rio(all suites)casino has evening shows right above the casino.
The Biggest Souvenir Shop- more knick-knacks than one can imagine (if you’re into that stuff)-on the strip
Shows- Penn & Teller- not too pricey and fun
Las Vegas Golf Tips
Courses are listed in order of cost, highest to lowest, and
recommendation
Prices usually go down after noon or 1 P.M. in the warmer weather
Badlands
20 min. from downtown, beautiful mountain golf with target fairways,
get there
early as range balls are included in price. Around $125 worth the price
Rainbow Park
several courses, all super miniature golf on real grass for
“non-golfers” ,skip
the par 3 course, almost across the street from Badlands. around $110
ParadiseValley
25 min. northwest of downtown, course winds through homes, Excellent
condition
around $95
Desert Rose
inexpensive course east of the Strip, average at best, but ok Around $75
Craig Ranch
when I played here: greens diseased and need work, fairways were a
mixture of
grass, weeds, and dirt, little character to the course, save your money
rather
than going here
