"Sacred
Contents" "The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners, and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are unchangeable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword, and the Christian's charter. Here Paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand subject, our good the design, and God's glory its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given you in life, will be opened at the judgment, and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents." For a more printable version (2 legal pages) write me at [email protected] “O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good; for His mercy for ever” (Ps. 107:1) Note: The apocrypha (extra books which Roman Catholicism includes, as well as a few others) are not to be included in the list of inspired Scripture, as they are of an inferior quality, and were not included in the Jewish Cannon of Jesus day, nether did He quote from them (in the gospels) nor does the rest of the New Testament. Moreover, certain apocryphal writings contain and thus can promote serious doctrinal error (such as praying for dead idolaters: 2 Maccabees 12:39-45). For a further explanation of why such books are not included in the canon of inspired Scripture, see http://www.christiancourier.com/articles/read/the_apocrypha_inspired_of_god and http://www.christiantruth.com/Apocryphapart1.html * (*Such sites have many good articles, but as with all links, such references do not imply that i agree with everything that may be presented). |

Ps. 119: Selected Texts (We should pray in accordance with such pious expressions, that our heart may be like the Psalmists who penned it.) 1. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. 2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. 3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. 18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. 24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.
35
Make me t go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I
delight. 41 VAU. Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word. 53 Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law. 65 TETH. Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word. 97 MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. 105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. 111 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. 124 Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes. 126 It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law. 136 Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law. 158 I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word.
