| Our Grandma Her perceptive understanding, Her stalwart but feeble frame, Radiant rays of faith and love - Gladys Shemilt is her name. Her saucy, tittering manner, Indispensibly clever, Had a frankness to embarrass Flagrant minds forever. Tea biscuits from nimble fingers, Not as spry as in her youth, Still amusingly presented, Delightful, spirit of truth. Her expressions grew laconic. Infirmities settled in... Yet her hums will be remembered As radiant GEMs within. Received Editors Choice Award The National Library of Poetry Portraits Of Life, page 654 & The Ebbing Tide, page 206 Dedicated by her grandson, D.B. Hanewich 11/95 (Grandma's maiden name: Gladys Evelyn Mitton) |
