8.8" Traction-Lok Rear Axle Assemblies

A big step many V6 owners take is upgrading from the stock 7.5" rear end with 2.73:1 gears to an 8.8" rear end with a choice of gear ratios.  Upgrading the rear end brings an improvement in acceleration due to the gearing and traction-lok.  The only problem with the new assembly is that it weighs about 35 pounds more than the stock.
The most popular gear ratio would be the 3.73:1.  This ratio provides better acceleration without sacrificing street driving.  You will probally see  less miles per gallon driving on the highway because the engine will be running at higher speeds.  Be sure to pick the right gearing for your needs, some will have great acceleration at the track but wont be drivable on the street.
Another good reason to consider buying would be for the traction-lok.   Traction-lok is a limited slip differential and when wheel spin occours power is directed to both rear wheels.  This helps launch in drag racing at the track or on the street.  It also makes for a nice looking burn-out.
A new assembly will cost around $700-$800 and come fully assembled with housing (including all brackets), gear set, and 28 tooth traction-lok differential.

Speedometer Gear

One thing that is not included that you will need is a new speedometer gear because the new gearing will throw off your speedometer.  You shouldnt have to pay more that $10 for one and they are available at places like Mustangs unlimited, Steeda, Saleen, ect.....

For Automatic Transmissions

Shift kits

One of the best ways to improve your automatic transmission would be to get a shift kit.  Shift kits provide crisp shifts for your automatic and they also improve transmission life.  When installed you can choose from two settings.
1. Firm positive shifts without loss of driver comfort
2. Very positive shifts for high performance street use or for competitive events.

The Transpak is the next step up from the shift improver kit.  It provides all the same options and then some.  It provides more driver manual control.  Kits can are sold at many different levels of performance, and cost around $50.

Shifters

For better shifts with a manual transmission a new shifter is a must.  From expirience I would say that the steeda tri-ax shifter is the best that I have seen yet.  Its the smoothest, most comfortable, quikest shifting, shortest throw shifter on the market.
This shifter is very easy to install and is even spring loaded so that you never miss 3rd gear.
The Tri-Ax shifter costs about 180 dollars and can be purchased from Steeda Autosports.

Aluminum Driveshaft Assembly

After-market aluminum driveshafts are about 6 pounds lighter than stock shafts and improve acceleration.  They are also well balanced to eliminate many driveline problems.   Kits come complete with slip yoke and new U-joints.  You can get one from steeda for $175.

Torque Converters

For increased power, torque, and performance out of your AODE transmission and aftermarket torque converter will be great.  You will notice a huge change in the performance of your automatic transmission.
Precision industries makes the popular "stallion" model.  Torque converters can cost anywhere from $200-$500+ depending on what kind you get.
