The  propogandist's purpose is to make one set of people forget that       certain other sets of people are human
- Aldous Huxley
In order to rally people, governments need enemies. They want us to be afraid, to hate, so we will rally behind them. And if they  do not have a real enemy, they will invent one in order to mobilize us.
- Thich Nhat Hanh
Our highest duty in this life is to help others. And, please, if you can't help them, could you at least not hurt them?

Foreign Policy
Why Dan is a Libertarian
People all over the world should see Americans as their friends. We are an amazingly generous, friendly people. Unfortunately, Democrat and Republican politicians have not represented the basic decency and goodness of the American people in pursuing foreign policy.

Instead, we have let our politicians engage in a form of militant mercantilism, supporting their campaign contributors and business partners  with the full military might and resources of the United States Government.
This is especially apparent in the Persian Gulf, where our government spent $35 Billion annually to protect a $19 Billion annual oil supplybefore the invasion of Iraq. Current estimates of the cost of the invasion average around $170B annually.  We have spilled our dearest blood there. The situation is deteriorating rapidly, and the people we were assured would be welcoming us as liberators are helping and harboring those who have killed over 1,000 of our children, brothers, sisters, parents, and friends over there.  A legacy of repression, toruture, and corruption in that part of the world, done with the full knowledge and  support of professional politicians in Washington, D.C., has created enemies for us where we should have friends and peaceful trading partners.
We should immediately bring home all of the American troops stationed in over 100 countries around the world. Our government has a responsibility to defend America. Currently, we defend Europe from the U.S.S.R. and the Warsaw pact with hundreds of thousands of troops, at an  annual cost of tens of billions. Not only is this a subsidy of one of our largest competitors on world markets, but - and evidently Democrat and Republican politicians haven't noticed - neither threat still exists.
Manuel Noriega was a client of the U.S. Government under Republican and Democratic administrations. Your tax dollars bought him weapons.
Saddam Hussein was a client of the U.S. Government under Republican and Democratic administrations. Your tax dollars bought him weapons.
Osama Bin Laden was a client of the U.S. Government under Republican and Democratic administrations. Your tax dollars bought him weapons.
By supporting - and in some cases installing - brutal, corrupt,   undemocratic dictators in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, our politicians have put our country on the wrong side, aiding and abetting the repression of the people of those countries.
Isn't it time that we took responsibility for what our politicians are doing to people around the world? We can have trade and peaceful relations without forcing a new version of colonialism on people who just want to live decent lives.
America is too good of an idea to destroy because Democrat and Republican politicians want to build just one more empire. The Roman empire fell, the British empire fell, the French empire fell, and when they fell, their citizens suffered.
Thomas Jefferson, in his second inaugural speech, uttered the immortal  words:
"Equal and exact justice to all men, of whatever state or        persuasion, religious or political; peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none"
This is not only possible, it's a good idea, and its' the smartest way to defend our nation, our people, our ideals, and our Constitution. It also saves tons of money since it has always cost taxpayers billions - and sometimes their civilization itself - to maintain an empire.
