Video Discussion
A discussion based around the presentation of the following short fim by Rachel Garfield
"So You Think You Can Tell"
'So You Think You Can Tell' is a 20 minute video telling the story in documentary format, of two women who have moved between communities. Their journeys mirror each other and challenge assumptions regarding cultural purity and life choices. As the interviews develop, the women reveal attitudes that increasingly subvert expectation and orthodoxy. The video was exhibited at EAST International 2000 as a projection and will be exhibited at the Collective Gallery in Edinburgh in July 2001. The video is part of a body of work researching contemporary Jewish identity in Britain. The paper 'Ali G: Who Does He Think He Is', Third Text (54) pp 63 - 70, 2001 explores similar themes reflected in the video.
