Caricatures1
This carving was the second caricature I have ever carved.  I then carved the one below as a gift to one of my best friends.   He is a carver who specializes in carving farm and nature scenes in relief.    When he saw the first one, he really liked it..  I knew then I had to make him one as a special gift.  Both carvings are in basswood with acrylics.   Carved in Winter, 2005

A Special Note About My Caricature Carvings

I decided about 5 years ago when I became serious about carving, that I would not carve caricatures until I had learned to carve real faces failrly well.  It was and still is my belief, that one should know how to make the face correctly, before purposefully distorting it.   Many carvers seem to carve caricatures farly well, but cannot carve the real human face well.  I really enjoy carving caricatures and have found that for me, carving the human correctly first, makes carving caricatures very easy and extremely fun
