We will focus on developing composition, gain basic skills in color theory, and learn how to see subject matters in terms of light and structure. I will ask you to address your work in a larger social and historical context. You will develop a clear understanding of the relationships between the elements of a composition and the basic principles of painting Introduction Welcome to Art 201, 202, and 203 � Painting. This is a participatory, hands-on studio art class. Class activities will be a combination of studio projects, demonstrations, and critiques focusing on what you learn, and discussing works of art. It is my responsibility to challenge you. It is also your responsibility to challenge yourself. I expect you to take ownership of your creative ideas. Communication is important. Each studio assignment is worth 20 points. I will distribute project instructions that will detail your task and assignment. Attendance - 20 points Students are expected to attend every class session. You will be awarded 20 points for attendance if you have one unexcused absence or less. You will be awarded 10 points for attendance if you have two or three unexcused absences. If you have more than three unexcused absences, no points will be awarded to your final course grade. Class Participation - 20 points In addition, you can be awarded a maximum of 20 points for class participation. To ensure that you don�t miss demonstrations and critiques, it is important that you arrive to class on time. Grading Scale Counting the 140 points for assignments, 20 points for attendance, and 20 points for class participation, there are a total of 180 points in the course.
