The Standard states "The face to show both colour and white."

Although this pretty kitten, has a beautifully marked Tortoiseshell coat pattern and attractive white markings, she would (sadly) not be place in competition due to lack of white marking to the face. If this promising kitten has even just a small but readily visible amount of white, she would most probably done very well .

Examples of Incorrect coat patterns

The minimum colour description states that "the exhibit must have colour to the head area accompanied by a fully coloured tail."

This six month old kitten unfortunately fails in the show bench standard for minimum colour, as he has no colour to the head area and his tail is not fully coloured .

If he had some colour to the head, even a sopt would have been acceptable and a small patch of colour somewhere else the fact that he has white to his tail would have been acceptable.

At this level of white expression some times the base of the tail may be white but the overall impression is that of a fully coloured tail, this is one reason why judges must be scrupulous in the examination and application of coat pattern..
