DEFINE AND CONQUER Pg - 1

I N S T R U C T I O N

HOME Every player has a style and a weakness. Here's some good advise on how to defeat your next opponent. There is no one way to play in tennis. It doesn't matter what you do ,whether you stay on the baseline, rush to the net, get every ball back in play. If it works for you, then do it.

Your opponents are also like that. They have their own style, and to beat them you need to use your strengths to exploit their weaknesses. Here are some good playing styles and some good ways to counter them.

POWER BROKERS            They stand close to the baseline, and hit big ground strokes to make you run all over the place. They

can hit great winners, but they also make a lot of mistakes. To counter this, have great depth and variety in your shots (vary pace and angles) so they can't get used to one single return. Sometimes your opponent may hit a screamer, but keep making it hard for him to hit a winner (it's only one point). Power hitters are usually not patient players so running down that extra

ball may draw error. You will need to take some risks so your opponent will be on the defensive side of the game (don't let him control the rally). You could also lure him to the net, because most baseliners don't like volleying.

SPEED MERCHANTS  They chase down the ball, keep it in play, and wait for you to make the error. This may be the toughest player to face.
