Jesse Stout (b. 1754, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, d. 10 Aug 1834, Morgan County, Illinois) married by 1783, Kingwood Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, to Mary Farnsworth, daughter of Thomas Farnsworth and Elizabeth Bray.

Revolutionary War Service: Entered service from Amwell Township --- New Jersey Militia, May or June 1776 (5 months, Capt. Anderson's Company, Col. Johnston & Col. Phillips Regiment); August 1777 (5 or 6 months, Capt. Philip Snook); May 1778 (2 months, Capt David Jones & Joseph Clark?); 1778 (3 months, Capt. Philip Snook, Col. Shreve's Regiment). Battles: White Plains, New York and Elizabethtown, New Jersey (wounded, gunshot wound to left shoulder).

Father is James Stout.

Mother is Lydia Manners.

Father of 8 children: James, Henry, Thomas and Elizabeth, are named in the pension application. Revolutionary Pension Record (W25108). Son-in-law Nathaniel Stout (a distant cousin) is named in an affidavit for Mary's 1840 widow's pension application. Daughter Catherine is identified through Nathaniel's marriage record in Franklin County, Indiana (1821). Daughter Rachel is identified through a marriage record from 1819 Franklin County, Indiana (to George Bedwell).

Places Jesse and Mary lived: New Jersey to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, back to New Jersey, then 23 years in Hamilton County, Ohio, 7 years in Franklin County, Indiana, and at least 3 years in Morgan County, Illinois.

He appears on a 1793 Tax List for Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey and a 1799 Tax List for Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. His name appears on the 1806, '08, and '09 Tax Lists for Hamilton County, Ohio. There are two Jesse Stout's on the 1810 Census for Hamilton County. His cousin Jesse, son of Obediah Stout, is believed to be the other Jesse. Jesse is to be found on the 1820 Federal Census for Franklin County, Indiana (next door to George Bedwell). Jesse appears on the 1830 Federal Census for Morgan County, Illinois, and posthumously on the 1835 Revolutionary Pension Index for Morgan County, Illinois.

Jesse is sometimes confused with a cousin --- Jesse Stout of Hopewell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The Hopewell Jesse was a son of a different James Stout and Catherine Stout. Cousin Jesse married Abigail Lott.
