Milo Bloom, investigative reporter for the "Bloom County Picayune", translator for Bill the Cat, friend to all but unwitting politicians and preachers. He was a major character that lasted the entire run of the strip and appeared in most of the storylines. Milo lived with his grandparents, Major and Bess, in the boarding house they owned.

Major was a many things; a hunter, a traditionalist, a conservative, a football coach at Milo's school, and he HATED COMMUNISTS. Bess was the quiet grandmotherly type with an eccentric affinity for her little cockroach buddies. Major and Bess faded away a few years into syndication.
