Crumbfel's Story

The Lady and The Prince

Once, not very long ago really, Lady Laura lived in a magnificent manor house. Living with her was her kitten Starlit. It was such a beautiful house that people from all around the world came to visit. This pleased Lady Laura, for she was a excellent host and adored entertaining. Everyone who wanted to stay in the manor house signed the minor guest book, and was escorted to special rooms, where they could have either private conversations with the Lady of the House, or conversations that anyone could overhear and enjoy. Lady Laura was a very brilliant person and could speak on many subjects with great authority. Her guest especially yearned to hear her speak on religious dance. When she spoke of it, which was often, her guests felt nearer to God. In fact, when ever she spoke on holy things she made everyone fell warm and blessed. This endeared Lady Laura to her visitors, who felt she was among the most talented, most wise and most caring people they had ever met.

Yet, with all the happiness that came from the magnificent manor house, her guests, and her ability to charm and inspire all who heard her speak, Lady Laura was most happy when she was dancing with her Prince. Yet, this was not always possible, because her visitors felt that when she danced she should only dance sacred dances. It made Lady Laura very sad to think she did not have a place, out of the sight of her visitors, where she and the prince could dance the night away. She wished very hard she could find such a place.

Whenever she confided her wish to her demented old gatekeeper, Sir Crumbfell, the elder knight would smile and say, "to realize your dream, you must first embrace your weakest friend." Sir Crumbfell had once been a noble knight, but could no longer fight as a noble warrior. Most thought that he was, to be gentle about it, off his rocker. How could Lady Laura dance with the prince, by embracing her weakest friend? Months past, she hugged her friends, she helped her friends, and supported her friends. Yet, with all this, dancing with the prince seemed farther and farther away. She began to suspect everyone was right about the old knight, he and the German clocks had much in common.

Then, one day while walking though her dance studio, Lady Laura noticed her kitten, Starlit, scratching at the wall just below the exercise bars. Not wanting Starlit to claw at the wall, the Lady reached to pick the kitten up. As she touched the kitten, she heard a secret door unlatch. She went through the door, wondering what she would find on the other side of the wall.. As she her eyes adjusted to the light, Lady Laura saw her prince standing there at the other side of the room. Suddenly wonderful music filled the room, played by hidden musicians. This wonderful music bid the Prince and the Lady to dance.

Now when the Lady finds herself wary of guests, and gatekeepers, she and Starlit steal undetected into their special private dance studio. There they dance the night away with their handsome Prince.

As for Sir Crumbfell, only Lady Laura knew he was the one who built the magnificent manor house in honor of her ability to dance. This is the reason he knew about the secret rooms and Starlit being the key to the secret lock. Everyone in the manor house continued to think that Sir Crumbfell was old and crazy. Well, everyone except Lady Laura who knew that he was not all that old.
