You're A Star! Being The Best You Can Be Through Christ
"Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is!" -- Anne Frank
The Mustard Seed Matthew 13:31-32 illustrates an extremely important point in being the best that we can be, ". . .The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants and grows into a tree where birds can come and find shelter in its branches." Heaven is like a mustard seed. We're like a mustard seed. Have you ever thought, I mean really thought, about his illustration? Jesus uses it several times in the Bible, saying in Matthew 17:20 ". . . I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, Move from here to there and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. I don't believe Jesus used the mustard seed metaphorically because he thought it was cute or liked mustard but I think he used it because it best parallels with potential. In order to be the best we can be we've got to learn to live up to our potential. When you are born, your spirit, your faith, and your personality are all like mustard seeds; small, but capable of being nurtured into something much larger. Just like this seed, we also have certain necessities that will encourage our growth. In order to grow into all it can be, the seed needs water, sunlight, and oxygen, correct? Similarly, we need the Holy Spirit to give us the strength to advance. Are you seeing the parallel yet? It's not a difficult concept to understand. We are all full of potential. We are all called to fulfill a specific purpose unique to only us. We are all like the mustard seed. Tiny, insignificant, and easily lost in the crowd. But only if you choose that route. We have the ability to water ourselves with the Spirit! Then, and only then, will we realize our potential and live up to it! So, who wants to be a tiny, insignificant mustard seed and who wants to impact the world for Christ? Ya, I thought so! :)
