Whats her secrets? how do the champion dancers do so well in competitions? What are the jusges looking for? How do you place higher? Well, you've got questions, I have the answers!! |

First off- it is hard to really say what exactly judges are looking for as all judges are different. some judges love dancers who travel all over the stage, others like dancers who stay in roughly one area. To smile or not to smile- that is the question! My dance teacher has told me on several occasions not to smile during your dance, you look to much like you are trying to sell yourself (which you are- the judges just are supposed to know that!! lol) So, I would say, smile at the begging of your dance, when you are standing onstage and everything and then once you are actually dancing just keep your mouth closed. No one likes to see a dancer with there mouth hanging open! |

How do the championship dancers get so high on there toes? This is a questions I have to ask myself sometimes. The best way to tell if your up on your toes during a competition is to tie your shoes really tight, so tight that when you go up on your toes you can feel your shoe laces digging into your foot. It dosen't sound or feel that pleasent, but it really does the trick (I know, thats what I do!)
Another trick I found handy was to hold a penny, pebble whatever (just make sure it is small enough to fit in your hand!) and hold it in your hand when you are dancing (just make sure you don't forget it is there and it hits the judges!) Another way is if you are getting a new dress made, ask the seamstress to put velcro on the sides of your arms and dress and then you can just velcro yourself to the dress! In Irealnd, almost all the girls have them now!! |

Electrical tape- I don't know how anyone lives without it! If you have aproblem about sliding all over the stage, this is your secret weapon! For Soft Shoes- Just make an X shape at the bottom of the toe part of your shoe. Hard Shoes- Put tape all over the yoe and heel part. Ta Da! |
