What makes an Irish Dancer different then say a ballet dancer? Well, besides the part where in ID there are strict rules against having your arms up above your head, there are several elements that makes us unique. Such as our footwork, not to mention our costumes! I have broken down the Basic elements of dance into four easy to remeber tips that will make you a better dancer. There is even a quick way to remember them! So what are you waiting for? Try them!! |

P- Placement (turning out your feet and crossing them, pointing your toes and staying up on your toes)
P- Posture (keeping your arms by your side and your back straight, shoulders back, head up)
P- Pick-Up (pick up your legs to your bum- especially on lifts!)
S- Strech (Strech your legs in frount, especially on kicks and make sure your knee is not bent!) |

So there you have it, the easiest way to remember to turn out your feet, cross them, point your toes, stay up on your toes, kick behind, strech out in frount, shoulders back, head up, listen to the music and lift! (try saying that five times fast!) So next time you are in class, on stage, whatever all you will have to do is think "P, P, P, S" and you are good to go! |
