Apple Betty with a Hat

4 Cups sliced pared tart apples or 1 1lb 2oz can of pie sliced apples-drained.
¼ cup orange juice (apple can be used)
1 cup sugar
¾ cup sifted flour
½ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg (I used fresh and used 1/8th fresh is stronger)
dash salt
½ cup butter=1 stick

Mound apples in buttered 9" pe plate; sprinkle with juice. Combine sugar, flour, spices and salt; cut in creamed butter (mixture willbe either gooey or crumbly) sprinkle/pile it over apples. Bake in oven at 375ºF for 45 min's or till topping is golden brown.
