Light - oh, servant of Heaven - in all your glory
Immersing God's world in your golden glow
Light! Gentle twin of the raging sun in all his fury
Assisting Earth, her gifts to show.
What life have you not tinted, touched?
What splendour have you not displayed?
All God's creation owe you much
Whose beauty you have made.
You pass over all that you have blessed
With your soft and golden wing.
For flower and fruit, and beetle and brute,
Their cheerful charms you bring.
And though you rest in the dead of night
You do not forget us complete,
For there is the silver, sentry-Moon,
Whilst we are all asleep.
Dear Light! Endearing guiding Light!
What of our misadventures have you not seen?
In day or night you watch over us, bright!
How kindly do you gleeam!
