So, my Possible-but-Improbable Theories about the Human Race seem pretty warped, pessimistic and even psychotic... Just to clear things up before they get ugly, I have a habit of expressing myself in extraordinary and passionate terms - the following Possible-but-Improbable Theories may seem extremist and wayward, but just understand that I do not necessarily believe in everything I have written. People who know me will tell you I still live like a normal person.... almost.... I just like to think about this sort of thing, even if it's a bit outlandish... it challenges my brain, makes me think.... So just condemn me for an outrageous hypocrite rather than a psychotic maniac....
11:30pm, 5/11/99 Ok, right, so people say that humans, unlike animals, can make decisions about their lives, choose to do right or wrong, choose to go one way or another way... is that really true? I mean, I'm not going to go as far as the Matrix and say that we're controlled by a mega-computer system... but don't you reckon that life is one big long chain-reaction? I mean, you think that you actively make decisions, waying up the pros and cons of something before you act, and not driven by plain animal instinct... but is it really a choice? isn't your choice driven by arguments based on the attitude and perspective you have developed throughout life? So doesn't that mean that once you've started life, everything you do and supposedly choose is a chain-reaction led on from your former actions?
11:30pm, 5/11/99 Right! another theory - not quite so queer, perhaps, but one that I actually do believe in... a little. I believe that the Human Race is a curse to society. I believe also that the fact that we were supposedly given the power of choice (which other animal species are deprived of), is also a curse to society. If we had lived like animals, without greed or "choice" and this incessant desire for a permanent residence, living only on instinct, the World would be a far better place. So here’s my reasoning. Everybody learns, from geography or whatever, that ecosystems are fragile etc etc, and that it is human development and growth that disrupts this balance and causes species to become endangered/extinct etc etc. If we, like wandering animals, strove to a fertile place, ate our fill then move on; rather than working the area, draining it of decades of collected nutrition, then leaving it barren and irreparable in our lifetime, the World would be a better place...
11:30pm, 6/11/99 The Human Race is one of excessiveness and extremity. The problem with society is that whenever changes are made, they are excessive. Examples of this are Feminism, Freedom of Speech and the American Constitution, among other things. I declare that I believe in women's rights (that they should have equal opportunities as men); I believe in the Freedom of Speech (that people should not have their throats slit for complaining about their Head of State); I believe in the concepts of the American Constitution (and the Bill of Rights etc, although I am not even American, and otherwise have an objection to them). However, I do not believe that these to the extremities that the world appears to take them; there have been too many stupid court cases on matters of Feminism and the Constitution which I think are too outrageous and have taken the Constitution to much at its face value.... (again, I am too drained of energy to pursue this subject at present, but come back soon, and you'll see my thoughts..)
Voluntary Euthanasia. Ha! (more on this topic a little later)
11:30pm, 6/11/99 The Human Race causes the destruction of the universe and of life. It is because of the human race that things go wrong. Other animal species are predictable: they function on instincts and/or habits by which they have lived for centuries. The supposed choice given to the Human Race has made him destructive:
11:30pm, 7/11/99 I think this will probably be the only comment on this page which isn't a criticism of world society. It's a little bit of scientific nit-picky concept that I only just thought of. We all learn about cells in biology; and how complex organisms are formed by a large collection of cells with specific function, to increase the efficiency of processes within the organism (gee this sounds soooo techy!). My theory - which probably goes against everything else I have said about the Human Race on this page - is that in order to survive, and to cope with this complex (and pathetic) society we live in, the Human Race has divided into specific functions (farmers, businessmen, politicians) to provide for a wider society. This kinda supports the chain-reaction theory above. We also learn in biology that cancer forms when there is massive reproduction of cells with not differentiation. This seems to parallel the increased rate of childbirth (which I complained of above), and the increasing number of dole-bludgers and people causing problems for the world - all spreading throughout places in the environment that shouldn't be invaded... Eg, Mt Everest... I believe that if you can't get to a place by natural means (ie without oxygen masks etc etc), it means the place is a no-go-zone - ie DON'T GO THERE. In other words, the Human Race is a cancer to the Universe! Oh well, so much for the comment without criticism!
4:30pm 13/11/99 Each generation of society is getting worse. Why do I believe this? Here's my reasoning: Everybody knows that nobody is perfect. Therefore, in any attempt we make, we shall fall short of perfection. We try and teach our children something; they shall either not learn this enough or overlearn it (ie, be extreme and stick to the rules too much); in turn they shall teach their children, but their "level" to start with is lower, because they bear the insufficiencies of education that we have given them. So as well as the incapabilities they themselves possessed, our children are teaching our grandchildren bearing OUR incapabilities also.. .and the chain goes on.
4:30pm 13/11/99 I think it is sad that when people grow up, they lose that childish inquisitiveness, passion and honesty. It is reputed that uni-students are the most active revolutionaries, with a will to change the world. It is also a common movie concept that once people reach the "real world" it's a whole new ball game - with corruption, dishonesty and greed. This concept was shown very well in primary colours, when a youthful politician hoped to change the world, "they'll vote for us, because our ideas are better" (or something to that effect), rather than because of the smear-campaigns of the media and other politicians to smear. Travolta's character then answered that the world was so different from what they thought then, and he was resolved to get the votes by whatever means - honest or not. If only people had the will to continue fighting against corruption etc, with the open honest hearts of children!
8:00pm, 19/11/99 Ok, so for the past few days, I've been feeling almost happy - you can probably tell. my ideas aren't quite so psychotic... anyway, just as a thought: "Man is born free but is everywhere in chains" [Rousseau, French philosopher]. I agree with this- it is ironic however that these chains are made by Man himself. Stereotypes, supposed ideals for better qualities of life etc are all ideas of Man ... and therefore impure and misjudged. Think about it. Think that you are satisfied, are you will be (I know it's nowhere near as easy, but.... (I should learn to make my comments more concise - I ramble a bit... hmmm)
4:20pm, 21/11/99 As a sort of like an answer to a suggestion I made earlier that Man was all powerful because Man was Doom: Man can be his own destruction - blowing himself into thousands of tiny pieces across the earth... but just as evolution has occurred, so will regeneration after Man has destroyed himself. Our universe shall have the ultimate supremacy of Man - little critters like bacteria and unicellular organisms will continue to live and evolution willhappen all over again - but it shall be different... very different... no extinct animal will form again exactly as it was; one very similar may, but never the same...(more on this later)
