| Crossing Borders This painting was my first ever attempt with oils. I think it turned out rather well. Any-who...This painting is about exactly what the name says it is about. Things that cross borders that happen in our world that makes us forget about our borders, about our differences. The typical "big thing" i say it's about is what happened on September 11th. The tragedy brought millions of people together. See, in the face of something so big we are made to feel so small. We band together. I remember sitting with a group of people in a class who aren't particularily my "friends", people that you'd never expect to see hanging out, but we all sat and openly discussed what we were feeling about what had happened without worrying about whether we were skaters or goths or brains or jocks, because we needed people in that time. We forgot our "borders". the hand reaching from the yellow portion of the painting across the the dark portion represents people reaching out to other people past these man made "borders". The red dripping from the bottom of the arm is there to show the pain that all people were feeling. It is not neccesarily just the September 11th tragedies that make us reach out like that, but any tragedy at all, however small. Death (suicide, murder) makes us reach out for one another no matter how we were usually treat those people. This painting has something to teach us all. As much as it might not look it, it's trying to say "we can overcome our differences". thanks. kailey. back |
