ERIN'S
Audition Tips
Whether it's a Job, College, or Company audition ~ make sure that you plan early and have the correct date and time. You need to know how much time you have to practice and mentally prepare yourself. Also, make sure you have reliable way of getting there.

Check out the requirements of the audition. Many Companies want a resume and picture prior to the audition. Some auditions require a certain dress code (At most ballet auditions you are asked to wear a black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers/pointe shoes. For males it's usually a white shirt, black tights, and black ballet slippers). Hair must be completely out of your face! Requirements can also include a solo performance. Most companies allow it to be self-choreographed. Start working on your piece as early as possible - In an audition, this is the chance to shine all by yourself.

Get proper sleep and have a solid meal the morning of the audition. Starving yourself will not help you before an audition. Your body needs the energy for a strenuous workout. A weak dancers will not impress the judges ~

Get to the audition early! Showing up early can help in many ways - You have time to get comfortable in your enviornment. This makes you more confident and prepared as a dancer. You'll be one of the first dancers to recieve their audition number and hand in their resume. Who doesn't like a punctual person?? Most important you get to warm up. You may be allowed to use the studio (if so scope out your area on the barre . It's important to stay away from the first and last space on the barre). If the studio is in use find a corner in the waiting room and stretch. As a dancer you know thats the most important thing to do before you perform.

Before the audition starts a higher authority will most likely talk to you.
Listen carefully to what they say. He or She is talking to let you know about the audition. Their information may be vital to your performance.

Breathe deep and relax as much as possible. Keep reminding yourself that it's only an audition. Confidence is the key to success. Look around and tell yourself that your just as good as everyone else in the room.

Let your true dancing come out. Don't stiffen up and hold out. Feel the music as if you were in your studio at home. As every smart dancer knows, true movement comes from the heart.

Most of all,
SMILE!!!!! Judges don't want dancers that look like their in pain. Enjoy every moment of it. Your doing what you love and that's the bottom line!

AFTER THE AUDITION:

Always remember - no matter what happens - you tried your best. Even the best dancers in the world get rejected. A strong dancer bounces back and tries again. This is what will make you a winner in the end. Keep striving for your goals.
And if you make it - Good for you! You've accomplished a major goal in your life and should be proud. Keep climbing that ladder  - one day you'll be at the top.

* One more thing - remember that many people will never experience the thrill of an audition. Just getting through it makes you a very special person.
