Friend, Teacher, Lover, Master
What is a Master?
It's been asked many times.
So many times answered
In so many rhymes.
A friendship once offered,
And treasured forever,
Will always be cherished
And, pray, never severed.
Lessons offered and heeded,
Though not always asked for--
Not only of slavery,
But life, and much more.
A long weekend's trip,
But not long enough.
Time spent in His arms,
So tender, not rough.
Yet lessons still learned,
What's real and what's here,
Only made this girl yearn
To learn more each year.
Some may wish for a life
As a playmate and toy,
But what this one craves
Is a life filled with joy.
Lessons yet to be learned,
Teacher firm, yet so wise,
Make her want to be more,
To see pride in His eyes.
So much more to life
Than fancy words and fine talk,
What it all boils down to
Is walking the walk.
It's not always fun,
And it's not always easy.
But, oh, the rewards
When He says that you're pleasing.
So, before you complain,
Ask who is this for?
Is it just to be coddled,
Or to be so much more?
To always be striving
To be what He wants,
To listen with love,
And not only once.
It sometimes is painful,
And at times hard to face,
But then, what sweet pleasures
When a girl finds her place.
