Common Sense?

The other day, arani was re-formatting her list of slave positions, converting them to the new graphics template. It was something of a nostalgic experience for arani, and reminded her of the time when she was active in on-line Gor. Back then, she knew how to do around 30 different positions, and could do them on command without hesitation. Now, since she has not been into on-line Gor for almost a year, she would probably not be that quick to recall many of them.

As arani was going through her list, she came across something called the Common Gorean Usage position. Basically what this does is make the slave ready to be used by the Master, doggy-style. There is actually a quote from one of the Gor books, "Kajira," which describes fairly explicitly what this position is and what it is for. arani doesn't believe that Norman gives the position a name, as he does with some other positions which he describes. (For example, nadu and sula.) How it came by the name "Common Gorean Usage" is, at the present time, a mystery to arani.

Now, denoting this position as "common" implies that it is in fairly general usage, and in fact would be the position preferred on most occasions. That is one of the definitions that the Oxford American Dictionary gives for the word -- "occurring frequently, familiar." arani was a red-silk tavern slave for some time, and was used rather frequently by the patrons of her Master's tavern. she has also served two different Masters off-line. While they did, at times, use her from behind, this was only one of several different ways in which they did so. arani didn't keep records, so she can't speak from a statistical viewpoint, but she doesn't recall that any one position was preferred over any other.

There are a couple of other definitions for the word "common." The one given first on the list is "it is known to most people." Well, that certainly is true. This is a sexual position that is known by most people -- and if they don't know it before joining the on-line Gorean community, they quickly learn it. So, in that sense, the position is definitely common.

A third definition for "common" is "belonging to or shared by two or more people or things." Yes, this is most certainly something that is shared between two people. It is arani's firm belief that it would be extremely hard to masturbate in this position. So, again we find the dictionary supports the label.

Next we come to the definition that arani's Master suggested, when she brought this question up in conversation with Him -- "without special distinction, ordinary." Hmmm. Much attention is given to reminding slaves that they are certainly nothing special, that they are very low on the evolutionary pyramid. So, would subjecting her to such usage be simply another way of reminding her of that? Could well be.

So, which definition is the correct one? arani is only a slave, she would not presume to judge on this matter. she will leave it for those who care to spend hours debating what Norman meant by this or that....goodness knows, there are plenty of those people around. But arani is far too busy serving her Master to worry about such things, other than as random thoughts that pass through her silly little brain.
